Radiohead's King Of Limbs

While Radiohead’s new album, out today via their website is only 38 minutes long, nothing else I’ve heard packs so much into so little.  The complex, ambient synths layer over systematic drumming and Thom Yorke’s echoing vocals to form a complex sound that can only be described as the feeling you would get if you were alone in a forest as the sun was going down on a foggy day in England.  This one warrants a few listens to really take in all the sounds.  Hit the jump for the first single.

Back on that same old TL shit. Homie hasn’t changed his sound much for his debut album. Theo liberated the first single from his first studio album at midnight last night. The song Why Even Try comes from Lovers Holiday, which is set to drop February 8th.

I was in LA last weekend for the Rose Bowl. Sure enough TheRealJawn comes through with a funky playlist with this song being the standout track. The mosaic-sounding keyboard tones and spritzy digital drums are quite outrageous. I’m down with more indie/electro like this.

TheRealJawn is back with… well… some new, dank jawns.  Twin Shadow, or George Lewis Jr., is a kinda weird, but very chill Brooklynite who is breaking out as an impressive new talent.  On his full length debut titled Forget, Lewis uses a funky collection of piano, guitar, brass and string synths on top of drum machine beats to create a hazy 1980’s disco feel.  Think LCD Soundsystem with some Talking Heads.  His voice is a little raspy adding another layer of complexity to the music.  It’s one of those “listen all the way through” albums, but there are definitely a few highlights you can listen to/download after the jump. At first what sounds like a person struggling to play the flute music kind of tripped me out and I was wondering what this guy was trying to do. But once he started with the blue dots and the red inside of them my jaw was dropped. It gets WAYYY crazier as the video continues. Lets be real, those aren’t your ordinary paint brushes he’s using. This looks super fun!

Here is the second visual offering from the homie Theophilus London’s I Want You mixtape. The video was shot in Amsterdam and Brussels, while he was on his European tour. Onat & Fabian are responsible for the production of the video. TL loves that gold watch, I’ve never seen him without it on.

I just recently got into Miike Snow, so my judgement can’t be too credible. This video reminds me something that could possibly belong to Major Lazer. I do love the 2 Live Crew parody at the end. What do all you Miike Snow fans think about this one?

The Arcade Fire have posted tiny snippets of two new songs entitled ‘The Suburbs’ and ‘Month of May’ to their website via a strange online record player that adds in the scratchy noise and everything.  ‘The Suburbs’ sounds like it’s gonna be a summery folk track, while ‘Month of May’ is louder, and more Neon Bible-esque with some potential to be a heavy anthem. Who knew Shakira was into good music.  I just came across this small snippet of a new track that she’s calling “Explore” but it’s a straight up cover of the XX song – Islands.  It’s definitely pretty catchy, she throws in an electro-esque beat that adds a nice layer onto the already super dank track.  Hear the snippet below:

Okay! So we finally get a visual for the single from the British group’s last self-titled album, The xx. The video itself is pretty much what I expected from the group: A painfully repetitive scene of a man and a woman doing the same dance move over and over and over (it’s actually slightly different each time). As for the group, they’re sitting on a couch dressed in all-black-everything trying painfully hard to look emo. They kinda remind me of Cartman’s Christian rock group, Faith Plus One, trying a little bit too hard to look deep and anguished. Oh well, leave your opinion in the comments section if you feel so obliged.

Now that the Theophilus London/Mickey Factz show is in the past, its time to get back on our grind.  Special thanks to MaxB, we got Theo to leak us a track of his upcoming mixtape I Want You due to be released April 28th (CHECK OUT THE INTERVIEW!!!).  Below, you can hear/download that song called “Oops”, plus another track off I Want You called “Accept The New” which I’ve been loving.

Im also throwing in three more tracks that have have been released recently.  The first is the new LCD Soundsystem single off their upcoming album This Is Happening.  I’m a huge fan of the steady, head nodding piano/drum beat, and the synths add in a nice relaxing element.  The entire album is streaming here.  The next song just got leaked today and it’s off The National‘s upcoming album High Violet.  The song, called “Afraid of Everyone,” is a dark, almost spooky ballad that erupts with a National-esque drum beat and intense lyrics over some background strings.  It’s a dirrrty track, take a listen.  The last song I’m including is a remix of the song “We Are The People” by Empire Of The Sun.  It’s a classic electro jam, but I find this remix to be a little more accessible.  It’s easy listening with a little Daft Punky flavor…  Hit the jump for streams and downloads of all 5 tracks: (more…)

When RealJawn took me to see Arcade Fire in Minneapolis back in 2008, it seemed like the group was still unknown. Or at least they were unknown to me. Needless to say, the show was one of the most awe-inspiring, incredible performances of live music I’ve ever been lucky enough to witness. Over the next two years, Arcade Fire would increasingly become a twenty-something’s household name. The Canadian indie rockers’ music continue to be incorporated in ads, movie trailers and collaborations with mainstream artists. The latest of which is an upcoming short film made by Spike Jonze and, based on the last Jonze short we saw, it should be interesting. Read more to take a look back at the growth of Arcade Fire’s US resumé mainly in thanks to their song “Wake Up“… (more…)

A Trip To Miami’s ULTRA Music Festival 2010 03/28/2010

So this week we’re all taking a much-deserved spring break. I went down to Miami for a week of relaxation, and of course: Ultra Music Festival. This is by far the most intense, incredible spectacle I’ve ever encountered. While it was a two-day festival, I only attended Saturday where there was a sold out crowd of easily over 100,000 people. Most of whom were in costume and by my educated guess, on copious amounts of drugs. If I learned one thing from the festival it’s this: never get between a Techno Viking and his Eastern European rave whore. As I was making my way through the crowd last night, I took a step in front of this Techno Viking and got a sudden but firm German shove aside. But anyway, we saw some seriously good music, among which: Benny Benassi, Swedish House Mafia, ATB and more. Hit the jump for a 4-minute compilation video and some pictures of the freak shows and spectacles we saw along the way…
