Radiohead's King Of Limbs

While Radiohead’s new album, out today via their website is only 38 minutes long, nothing else I’ve heard packs so much into so little.  The complex, ambient synths layer over systematic drumming and Thom Yorke’s echoing vocals to form a complex sound that can only be described as the feeling you would get if you were alone in a forest as the sun was going down on a foggy day in England.  This one warrants a few listens to really take in all the sounds.  Hit the jump for the first single.

TheRealJawn is back with… well… some new, dank jawns.  Twin Shadow, or George Lewis Jr., is a kinda weird, but very chill Brooklynite who is breaking out as an impressive new talent.  On his full length debut titled Forget, Lewis uses a funky collection of piano, guitar, brass and string synths on top of drum machine beats to create a hazy 1980’s disco feel.  Think LCD Soundsystem with some Talking Heads.  His voice is a little raspy adding another layer of complexity to the music.  It’s one of those “listen all the way through” albums, but there are definitely a few highlights you can listen to/download after the jump. With the release of his new album Thank Me Later set to be released this Tuesday, Drake is the feature of a detailed article in the New York Times article about his past and recent successes. The writer gives quite a bit of props to Drake about his songwriting and flow.

“I believe in myself, in my presence, enough that I don’t feel small in Jay’s presence. I don’t feel small in Wayne’s presence.”  BOSS

It’s definitely an entertaining read… Enjoy

NYT Article: Marijuana Fuels a New Kitchen Culture 05/25/2010

I was forwarded this article from the New York Times Dining and Wine section last weekend.  The title is pretty self explanatory, but the article is really interesting and is focused on how weed is changing the food/restaurant game.  Restauranteurs all over the U.S. are openly smoking pot in and out of the kitchen to keep creativity up and to take some stress off their often tiresome, and long work days.  Check out this hilarious blurb for an idea:

Roy Choi, who owns the fleet of Kogi Korean taco trucks in Los Angeles, likens the culinary culture that has grown up around marijuana to the one that rose up around the Grateful Dead years ago. Then, people who attended the band’s shows got high and shared live music. Now, people get high and share delicious, inventive and accessible food.

“It’s good music, maybe a little weed and really good times and great food that makes you feel good,” he said.

What a G.  Click here for a link to the whole article

The Arcade Fire have posted tiny snippets of two new songs entitled ‘The Suburbs’ and ‘Month of May’ to their website via a strange online record player that adds in the scratchy noise and everything.  ‘The Suburbs’ sounds like it’s gonna be a summery folk track, while ‘Month of May’ is louder, and more Neon Bible-esque with some potential to be a heavy anthem. Who knew Shakira was into good music.  I just came across this small snippet of a new track that she’s calling “Explore” but it’s a straight up cover of the XX song – Islands.  It’s definitely pretty catchy, she throws in an electro-esque beat that adds a nice layer onto the already super dank track.  Hear the snippet below:

This is clearly just a concept image, and Apple has never publicly discussed an intention of stepping into the watch industry.  There is not even a description of what this thing may be able to do, but just off the top of my head, here’s a few ideas: Locate your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch with the touch of a button, weather descriptions, limited internet and bluetooth capabilities, and the dankest alarm clock known to man.  If you check out the pictures below closely, you can see that the bottom flap underneath the face flips open to a USB connection which could fit any iPod, iPhone, or iPad, which would enable someone to transfer info from any or all of the devices.  These are all just guesstimates, but if this thing were to actually come out, I would cop for sureee.  See below for more concept pics. Im sorry that I’ve been totally jocking Apple’s new iPad recently, but I’m looking forward to the purchase of one as soon as I get back home to NY.  I came across an article this morning that’s rather cool and innovative.  The folks at BreakfastNY.com have created a blimp that is controlled by the iPad through custom software that connects to a built-in computer. The iPad is the real controller, and it receives a live video-feed from the blimp’s cockpit via an attached front camera.  Click more for a description form Breakfast NY themselves and see a sick video of the thing in action. Got $190,000 laying around?  What better way to spend it then on this solid gold and diamond studded iPad that was unveiled yesterday.  The apple logo consists of 53 flawless diamonds.  Only 10 of these bad boys have been made by the designer Stuart Hughes, and I’m sure they’ll be selling like hot cakes.  Actually, probably not.  This is the same homie who designed a diamond studded blackberry bold.  Hit the jump to see a pic of that really necessary piece of technology. Earlier today, on “The Martha Stewart Show,” Martha grilled Outkast’s Big Boi about his upcoming album Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty, and then the two grilled up some freshy Maine lobsters.  This is the second notable time Martha has conversed with a rapper, the first time being the comedic pairing of Stewart with Busta Rhymes to present an MTV Movie Award. Big Boi referred to Martha as her Lady Martha Macaroni “cause you got that cheese.”  He later wrote on his twitter page: “Just finished grilling Lobster with Martha Stewart and my Mama. G Shit.” Amazing… Check out a clip of the episode here

Now that the Theophilus London/Mickey Factz show is in the past, its time to get back on our grind.  Special thanks to MaxB, we got Theo to leak us a track of his upcoming mixtape I Want You due to be released April 28th (CHECK OUT THE INTERVIEW!!!).  Below, you can hear/download that song called “Oops”, plus another track off I Want You called “Accept The New” which I’ve been loving.

Im also throwing in three more tracks that have have been released recently.  The first is the new LCD Soundsystem single off their upcoming album This Is Happening.  I’m a huge fan of the steady, head nodding piano/drum beat, and the synths add in a nice relaxing element.  The entire album is streaming here.  The next song just got leaked today and it’s off The National‘s upcoming album High Violet.  The song, called “Afraid of Everyone,” is a dark, almost spooky ballad that erupts with a National-esque drum beat and intense lyrics over some background strings.  It’s a dirrrty track, take a listen.  The last song I’m including is a remix of the song “We Are The People” by Empire Of The Sun.  It’s a classic electro jam, but I find this remix to be a little more accessible.  It’s easy listening with a little Daft Punky flavor…  Hit the jump for streams and downloads of all 5 tracks: (more…)

The lineup for this year’s Bonnaroo Music Festival is simply ridiculous.  Pretty much all my favorites are on the card, including: Jay – Z, Phoenix, The xx, Kid Cudi, Nas, The National, and many more.  A nutty new ticket package was just introduced called Bonnaroo Total Access – Here’s the deal:

For a hefty $18,500 (or $2,350 per person for 8 people), you get some pretty ill perks:

An on-stage viewing area for main stage performances, exclusive viewing areas for all peripheral stage shows, private showers and bathrooms, 24/7 golf cart service, an on-site concierge, open bars and hospitality tents scattered around the grounds, and pre-stocking of the bus with your favorite goodies.  It may be a touch expensive, but it definitely beats sleeping next to some candy-flipping grimey ass hippies. (Which is still pretty chill)  To check out a video on the ticket package, hit more: (more…)

MGMT has released its new album Celebration via an online stream on their website.  They say on their site that the album leaked and they wanted you to hear it from them first.  Now, I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that this album is fucking trash.  Sorry MGMT, but this new shit simply sucks the D.  None of it is catchy, and none of it has any solid hooks.  You can judge for yourself by clicking here.

In unrelated news,  two new songs are available as a stream or pay-to-download off Broken Social Scene‘s hyped up Forgiveness Rock Record which I posted about here and here.  The two new songs are equally as good as the first single they released called “World Sick.”  I highly recommend checking these two new tracks out by clicking here
